WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN INTENSIVE AND EXTENSIVE GREEN ROOFS
Intensive Green Roofs are gardens or even parks on a roof and can include trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, lawns, vegetable growing and other features such as pathways, patios and pergolas.
Extensive Green Roofs are low maintenance systems with shallower substrate depths, which are designed to increase local bio-diversity by providing additional habitat for plants and wildlife. An Extensive design will utilise plants that can tolerate low nutrient levels and little or no watering e.g. sedums, mosses, grasses and some wildflower species.
LIGHTWEIGHT SOILS & SUBSTRATES ARE ESSENTIAL FOR REDUCING BULK DENSITY & POINT LOADINGS
Bury Hill’s Lightweight Green Roof Soils & Substrates are suitable for a wide selection of roof gardens, podium gardens and balcony planters. Each of our materials is regularly tested including their bulk densities and can therefore be considered for any planting situation where bulk density and point loadings are of importance. Furthermore, our multi-lift bags and fleet of specialised delivery vehicles are all accepted on schemes where bags are to be craned directly from the vehicle to the roof garden.
